金継ぎ(kintsugi) “to repair with gold”

The Japanese art of repairing pottery with lacquer mixed with gold powder.

As a philosophy it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

Cracks and repairs are highlighted simply as an event in the objects life instead of ending its service.

The result is something new and unique instead of something broken and repaired.
