So something that confuses the crap out of me when it comes to the arm/hand augs in Deus Ex – more specifically Koller’s and/or Jensen’s –

We know Jensen’s augs are composed of polycarbonate materials, or at least that’s how they’re described in the tie-in novel. But like would there be some sort of artificial epidermis covering them? (There’s an ebook in Human Revolution that glosses over this, but I’m too lazy to go look it up right now)

But the reason I ask is because the [presumably] capacitive touch screens in the game respond to their touch. Think that little phone thing that Koller’s always swiping at, the screens at the train station – namely the “naturals only” screens which are designed to respond to the touch of a fleshed hand but also respond to Jensen. Unless they’re using resistive touch screens in the future like a bunch of troglodytes when resistive touch screens are absolute piss and a thing of the past, so I doubt they’d roll back technology to accommodate mechanical augmentations, especially with the general climate concerning augmented people.

But then considering how polycarbonate is used a lot in electrical components because it’s a good insulator, capacitive touch screens couldn’t possibly work because they rely on the conductive properties of your fingertip.

And also we clearly see that Jensen is able to wipe steam away from glass and, well, you can’t exactly do that successfully with a polycarbonate/non-porous/non-absorbent surface. But I’ve spent a lot of time closely inspecting his hands in the game and they just look like a metal/plastic surface? Like it doesn’t look anything like there’s an epidermis of any kind there and, well, I kind of need to sort this out if I want to write porn okay pls help
