Banshee S03E08: All the Wisdom I Got Left

Is anyone there? …Oh, looks like you’ve been down here quite some time.

They worked you over real good.
…Always be prepared.

Don’t worry. I’m not gonna hurt you.

I’m not gonna hurt you. I’ll cut you loose. …Just take your time. I’ll be right back.

Let’s go.

…I saved one for you. Come on, let’s go.

Banshee S03E08: All the Wisdom I Got Left

You’re violating our agreement with Frazier and selling to the Salvadorans.
// Yes. //

Your uncle won’t like that.

// Then don’t tell him.

It can be our secret.

And in the end…he’ll thank us for it. [gasps]

I’m not going to tell him.

It should come from you.

My favourite part about this whole scene is that when she moves in and it’s obvious what she’s going to do, he doesn’t try to stop her or react with shame or anger, he knows what she’ll find (or not find) and he just lets her go through with it and stonewalls her the entire time. I feel like this alone is a really deep insight to Burton’s character, and how his motivations are so different than that of most people and he doesn’t see this aspect of him to be shameful or deficient, it doesn’t define who he is and he’s more or less indifferent to it.

The thing I loved most about these two is that Rebecca is the type of person who merely uses sex as a tool or a means to an end, and Burton is castrated and asexual/aromantic in general so they’re basically immune to one another. Which is why they would have made such a great team and why it’s bullshit that he ended up killing her in the end.

Your father demands contrition from everyone except himself.

As I get older, I have far less patience for arrogance disguised as righteousness.

…And yet I stay.

I was not raised to think there was another way.

By the time I came to it on my own, I was an old lady.

I failed you, Kai.

I let the dogma of small-minded men determine your fate when I should
have been protecting you…the way any other mother in the world would
have protected her young.

And now I see you in here, and I know that we put you here, your father and I.

Your crimes, whatever they may be, are my crimes.
