YA fandoms are so fuckin wild like

I mean ship wars are already petty and confounding enough to me, and I’ll never understand them because either a ship does it for me or it doesn’t, and if it doesn’t, I’m indifferent to it at the most, but I’ve never had an outright aggressive reaction toward one to the point where it inspired me to make inflammatory posts and comments about it; to me, that kind of shit is equivalent to braindead dudebros who will start a brawl because someone was wearing the wrong team’s jersey at the bar or whatever but like

idk. YA fandoms are especially bizarre because for starters they’re usually set in some kind of dystopia where ~worrying about boys~ is certainly going to be the least of anyone’s problems and where relationship dynamics are going to be way beyond that of your average modern teenage girl but damned if you’re not gonna have a whole horde of people who will absolutely maul someone for even hinting at a pairing with (least favored male LI). Admittedly I’ve never been big on the weirdly possessive structure of monogamous relationships so maybe that’s why I can never wrap my head around ship hate and have always been a multishipper but like. I always wonder what the ship hate types of fans are like in real life relationships. I imagine them being those clingy jealous assholes who will blow up your phone if you spend one evening without them and then accuse you of cheating and will vaguepost about you all over social media just because you had a friendly exchange with another person. It just blows my mind that these kinds of people cannot seem to grasp how ridiculous they look 100% of the time

July 10, 2018 heathenpesticide'and lived HEA in meaningless domesticity after leading an entire revolution' trope, also like. who the fuck meets their soulmate at 16, also word of advice? maybe don't try to dictate or even suggest to a fanfic author where they go with a certain pairing in the story, ¯_(ツ)_/¯, esp when that story isn't centered around the ships in the first place, even when i was a teenager i didn't act like that so i'll never be able to empathize with that, i guarantee the author already has a projection of where they wanna go with the story and they're not gonna cater to your entitled ass, i just don't understand kids!, i really feel like media in general needs to stop pushing this trope esp. in material peddled to younger folk because!!, i'm immensely creeped out by this 'and they fought an oppressive regime and then married the equivalent of their high school sweetheart', is this really what teens aspire to re: relationships because. holy shit, just. what!!!, or doesn't go through more than one relationship before figuring out what kind of person they wanna end up with, or if they want to end up with anyone at all, that just. makes no sense to me. how is that an ideal relationship structure at all, they are being conditioned into thinking unhealthy relationship dynamics are considered desirable and romantic and it's. so gross lol, this wisdom brought to you by your fandom deadbeat dad, y'all gonna end up in some toxic abusive shit if that's the case. are y'all okayLeave a comment
