YA fandoms are so fuckin wild like
I mean ship wars are already petty and confounding enough to me, and I’ll never understand them because either a ship does it for me or it doesn’t, and if it doesn’t, I’m indifferent to it at the most, but I’ve never had an outright aggressive reaction toward one to the point where it inspired me to make inflammatory posts and comments about it; to me, that kind of shit is equivalent to braindead dudebros who will start a brawl because someone was wearing the wrong team’s jersey at the bar or whatever but like
idk. YA fandoms are especially bizarre because for starters they’re usually set in some kind of dystopia where ~worrying about boys~ is certainly going to be the least of anyone’s problems and where relationship dynamics are going to be way beyond that of your average modern teenage girl but damned if you’re not gonna have a whole horde of people who will absolutely maul someone for even hinting at a pairing with (least favored male LI). Admittedly I’ve never been big on the weirdly possessive structure of monogamous relationships so maybe that’s why I can never wrap my head around ship hate and have always been a multishipper but like. I always wonder what the ship hate types of fans are like in real life relationships. I imagine them being those clingy jealous assholes who will blow up your phone if you spend one evening without them and then accuse you of cheating and will vaguepost about you all over social media just because you had a friendly exchange with another person. It just blows my mind that these kinds of people cannot seem to grasp how ridiculous they look 100% of the time
